William Harvey Andruss

with his first wife Lucy and son Henry

I find it incredible that Mrs. Duke has included this picture on her website and is still calling it "unidentified."

I located the original of this picture two years ago, sent a copy to Linda Snyder, and she put it on her website with proper identification. Mr. Howard Downing, of Chilhowee, Missouri is a great-grandson of Orville Rice Andruss, a brother of Diannah Andruss Courtney/Haun. As you can see from Howard's affidavit, the man in this picture is William Harvey Andruss, the oldest son of Orville Rice Andruss, the lady is his first wife Lucy and the boy is their son Henry.

Just a note here -- I'm sure you have seen this picture on Mrs. Dukes's website, if not in her book. If you have an opportunity to inspect Jesse and Frank James, The Family History by Phillip W. Steele, you will find a photo of young Jesse, his mother and sister. Look closely and you will see that the picture of young Jesse in Mrs. Duke's book has been reversed so that both Jesse and Henry have their hair parted on the same side, enhancing a certain resemblance.

As you can see, Howard sent not only a copy of the original picture on the affidavit, but a front-and-back copy also. Although he didn't include it in his affidavit, Howard told me that the handwriting on the back of the picture is his grandmother's.

Just so there could be no doubt, he sent a picture of a small table in his living room on which he and his wife display their treasured family pictures. Note the small sepiatone picture in the center.
