[Jesse James in Texas?]
Thanks for stopping by. My name is Kathy Reynard. My husband Paul is the great-grandson of Harriet Elizabeth Courtney Black, the only sister of James Lafayette Courtney. One of James L. Courtney's great granddaughters, Betty Dorsett Duke, has written a book, Jesse James Lived and Died In Texas, in which she claims that Jesse faked his death, assumed the James L. Courtney name, then moved to Texas where he lived to a ripe old age. Her evidence is circumstantial and much of it has been refuted, but on a recently established website she repeats all the old claims. I will present the position of the Courtney family here, with photographs and source documentation, so you can make up your own mind about the validity of Mrs. Duke's claim.

[1861 U. S. flag]
This is the flag -- designed in 1861 -- under which James L. Courtney proudly served in the United States Army.
