Uncle Dick James, my father's brother, was the one who revealed to me our James family's roots in Kentucky. I was over 30 years old when I learned uncle Dick once had researched our family history. He had gone to Kentucky & found family there, whom none of us ever knew. The idea that my James ancestors were from Kentucky was startling to me. How did I come from Kentucky? I got a copy of Uncle Dick's genealogy. It was a spare three page outline, very simple with a lot of blank space. In it he identified our family history in Kentucky all the way back to the 1790s. I looked all through it for some reference to Jesse James.
