In 1998 met with Judge James R. Ross, great grandson of Jesse James. I asked him what happened to the quarter of a million dollars stolen by the James Gang in their criminal career. It's a question that's never been answered to anyone's satisfaction.
It was a well known fact that Drury Woodson James, the uncle of Frank & Jesse James, had built this wonderful Victorian hotel in Paso Robles, California a few years following a visit there from the boys. The question had to be asked. Was stolen money used to build this magnificent structure?
To find the answer, I set out on a trail to follow the money.
